One Fateful Night
The year is 199X.
In a small town called Onett, in the country of Eagleland, sits an orphanage, up a dirt path north of the main city beside a tall, spiraling hilltop. The residents of the orphanage sleep soundly one night, tucked neatly into their bed by their caretaker whom they lovingly refer to as 'Mom.'
Tossing about in their sweet slumber, each mind is oblivious to the blinding light pouring through their windows from a strange object hurtling speedily through the sky, to crash with an uproarious banging at the top of the hill.
One resident, shaken by this, jolts up in bed, rubbing their eyes to adjust to the darkness, and...

*in an attempt to get out of bed she gets tangled in the sheets and falls. Fritz quietly crawls under her bed to hide in case she woke someone. Fritz stays frozen until she is sure everyone is still asleep...She looks around and decides to use this opportunity to snoop on the other residents. She starts by crawling under the bed next to hers*

Re: One Fateful Night
Fritz wriggles about to find herself positioned beneath her neighbor's mattress, and witnesses a thin, cylindrical shadow peeking out from in between the boards suspending the bed. The silhouette shakes as the bed inflates with each snore of its resident, almost calling out to Fritz to grab hold of it.

*She reaches towards it, but decides against it at the last second. She looks around for any object to wedge in its place, so as to not wake the person above it*

Re: One Fateful Night
A discarded wedge of cheese sits just to her right, and fits nicely in the spot where the object once sat, while masking the particularly pungent smell of the slumberer with the loving aroma of aged gouda.
The young thief finds in her hand a slingshot! She reckons this will come in handy, and tucks it away for later.
[GOT THE SLINGSHOT: +12 Offense, misses 1/6 time. EQUIP?]

*observes his surroundings. He notices the rows of children sleeping softly around him, and then looks to the door. What could that crash have been? He decides to try and slowly etch his way through the room to see if the door is unlocked.

Corrix observes 4 beds in the room, one once holding up his own body and two others still occupied, with the fourth mysteriously unoccupied. He slinks to the door at the far end of the room and slowly twists the knob...
Eureka! The door squeaks open to a wide hallway. On his left beside the one he's just exited, Corrix finds another door, and a sofa in the hall farther into the room. The other end of the hall hosts a staircase, descending deeper into the orphanage.
Not a peep is heard, the whole house fast asleep.

...the foyer, filled with various sorts of seats and manned by a frantic-yet-calm-looking woman with frizzy blonde hair, which Corrix knew to be the orphanage's caretaker. Everyone just calls her Mom.
She turns to face him.
"What was that noise? You don't seem scared. Are you nuts? And now you want to go check it out? ...oh ...okay. You'll sneak out of your room anyway, even if I asked you not to. At least change out of your jammies before you go.
Be careful ! Come home as soon as you can."

Corrix approached the large set of mahogany double doors that led to the cool night air of Eagleland and opened them. He saw the the light from the crash at the top of the hill and approached….

A fork in the road, one dirt path leading to his left in a straight shoot down the hill, one to his right to a dead end and another craning around the cliffside before him to guide where he could not see.
Corrix stood in solemn contemplation, his next move uncertain.
NEXT TURN
In that same orphan bedroom woke yet another resident, now aware of the missing children beside him. With this observation in hand, he...

The light shinned brightly through a window across from our young undead hero. The rather husky living dead lad awoke, only for his glass eye to once again pop out of his head and roll off the bed. This always happened when he would awake in shock. Pushing off issue number 5 of Gurock the Dinochampion. Gurock vs the haunted mimes, a classic.
"Aww, beefsticks! Not again."
The portly lad rolled himself over off the bed, trying to find the glass eye.

The eye rolled a jagged path across the uneven floorboards to tink softly against the leg of a neighbor's bed. In his pursuit the boy noticed a tiny friend fiddling with a slingshot underneath the frame, and...
Re: One Fateful Night
Pursuing the eye he can see one of the fellow kids . The eye stopped at the other kids feet.. Jebb grabbed his glass eye raising it up in the air like a video game character who found an item, or his comic hero Gurock raises his handy whip of might. He shoved the glass eye back into its socket.
"Awesome sauce! Thanks for stopping my eye. Couldn't sleep cause the light and the noise?"

The chunky lad blinked a few times to make sure he still had his vision. Looking back under the bed.
"I've been up...maybe a minute. What are you doing under here?"
He looked around the bottom of his bed.
"Oh! If you see my Gurock issue number 22, Gurock goes to space, let me know. Yeah it's in French and I don't understand the words, but a Dinochampion knows a Dinochampion. Any other cool stuff down there?"
He asked scanning under the bed.

Re: One Fateful Night
Jebb's scanning found for himself... His Gurock Issue #22! Under the right circumstances this might be useful to distract an adversary.
[GOT THE GUROCK #22: Can be used to distract all enemies with 1/8 success rate]
NEXT TURN
The orphanage slowly began to hum to life, kids bouncing from their bunks and arriving in droves in the foyer to meet their mother. Likewise, outside, silhouettes of townspeople gathered, creating quite a commotion, until at last the sirens and lights of the Onett police force squad cars overtook the night, shooing people to and fro.
Mom looked worried.

"Woah what's going on out there? Come on! Let's go find out!!"
Fritz makes here way out from under the bed. She scurries over to the window, paying little attention to the disorder around her. She messes with the window in an attempt to open it.

Fritz fiddles with the window, but to no avail. Mom notices this, and approaches the elfling.
"Here, my dear, let me give you a hand-" she coos, opening the door and tossing Fritz out into the yard. Fritz lands with a splat against Corrix's back.

Re: One Fateful Night
Fritz scrambles to her feet and quickly takes a stance against Corrix in attempt to protect herself in case things take a turn for the worst. Suddenly, realizing it was only Corrix, she lets out an exhale of relief. "Wait... what are you doing out here? Did Mom throw you out too?"

Re: One Fateful Night
Fritz speaking increasingly faster, "Yea what do you think it could be? What if it's aliens, or an asteroid. What if it's the fountain of youth? What if it's a black hole?...just you know the opposite. WHAT IF IT'S THE OTHER END OF A BLACK HOLE!" halting her excitement an amazed enlightened look comes over her face. "What if....only WE can see it? What if this is what heaven looks like, and we have to make it to the light before it's too late?" Fritz getting ahead of herself while talking, paces around in a sporadic pattern before discovering the mysterious path to her right. "This is it!! I can feel it! Are you coming?" She starts to scurry down the path determined to find the light.

Fritz's hurried journey is halted by a snarling, fuzzy roadblock, again splatting her tiny body onto the ground before it.
